East Bay Expressway under CPEC – Project Detail and Prospects
East Bay Expressway will link Makran Coastal Highway with Gwadar Free Zone and Gwadar Port and its construction is being approved under the infrastructure portfolio of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Supposed to be accomplished by October 2020, the 18.98 kilometer East Bay Expressway will solve the transportation requirements of Gwadar and it costs PKR 1450 million while the government has released an amount of 17 Billion for the construction of East Bay Expressway.
At present, Gwadar Port has the only transit source of a narrow 16 feet wide road of Gwadar town at the West-Bay and the port does not have a dedicated wide highway to serve the transporting necessities of the port.
The trawlers and trucks loaded with imported shipments pass through this belt causing disturbance to normal traffic as they have no other suitable source. The four lane East Bay Expressway along with the provision of 30 meters wide railway corridor would not only connect the port with rest of the realm rather provide quick, smooth and safe transport track.
