On 20th November 2020, the first international cargo ship containing 200 tons of fish arrived at Gwadar Port through international waters. This seafood consignment of 8 containers successfully left for China opening new avenues of economic development for the country and is an authentication to Pakistan’s readiness for international business.
The trial transit at Gwadar Port was performed at the special directive of Prime Minister Imran Khan and realizing the vision of PM Khan, Pakistan Customs is all set to transform Gwadar into an International Transit Trade Hub and facilitate trade operations through Gwadar Port.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood on Wednesday November 25, expressed optimism towards the successful handling of trial trans-shipment at Gwadar Port. He said this operation will encourage Trade Operations at Gwadar Port and several international Cargos are scheduled to arrive at the port in upcoming days.
The upcoming vessels will be containing international cargo including LPG, Steel Pipes, DAP fertilizer for transit to Afghanistan. The trade activity at Gwadar Port also reflects the confidence of international business community in economic potential of Gwadar.
“This will hopefully be the encouraging beginning of our trans-shipment policy and will increase Gwadar Port operations. I wish to appreciate Pakistan Customs in making the first trial run successful,” said Dawood.
China Reaffirms Support to Gwadar Port for Regional Economic Uplift
Since international transit activities are kicked off at Gwadar Port and first fish trans-shipment is been handled successfully, China has shown its full support to Gwadar’s Pivotal Role for Economic Uplift of Region.
Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Zhao Lijian appreciated the role of Gwadar port in regional cooperation on trade and goods. Moreover, he said that China is confident that with efforts from all parties, the CPEC will surely play a more positive role in helping the region achieve prosperity.
